When Heidi blew out her ACL a couple of years ago, she and I spent some time learning how to golf. The idea was that she needed to learn a sport that was easier on her knees than softball. We both had a lot of fun with it, but we haven’t kept at it like we should have.
Even after learning to play the game badly, I still never quite got the appeal of watching the game on TV. It just didn’t seem very compelling… I mean, it’s not the fastest moving sport in world. It’s one of those things where I did kind of enjoy it, but I always had this vague feeling that I had better things to be doing.
So now I have to admit that the drama surrounding the U.S. Open on Sunday and today really grabbed me. Of course, it helped that there was a huge underdog to root for against the best player in the world. Like most other people, I always seem to long for a huge upset.
Does that make me a golf fan? I’ve never really thought of myself as one. Or is this one of those sports stories that seem to cross over into mainstream news?

It makes you a golf fan. You’re a golf fan.
Get some clubs and head to the range. I’ll play you any day of the week.
Golf is the new punk, my friend. Golf is the new punk.

Does this mean we (white males) can get back to ruling the world instead being the butt of every joke on every sitcom ever?
I guess I’m a little bitter.

Exactly.
Phase 1: Golf.
Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Profit.
